Deciding to just run and forget about the haters was probably the best thing I could have done for myself.
Because, this week I ran 4 times. That's the most runs I done in a single week in over 6 months. I obviously loved it since by Friday I couldn't wait to get to the gym and zone out for 45 minutes.
I also did yoga and Pilates this week - which I think really helped me not get too sore from the sudden increase in my running. And, I know the yoga helped me sleep because, for the first time in weeks, I slept like a freaking baby every single night.
Awesomeness! I finally don't have to wear a ton of under eye concealer to look human!
I tracked - not perfectly, but much better than average. I focused on drinking water and staying hydrated. I went to bed a decent time. I checked in on family and friends out East to make sure they were okay during the hurricane (send prayers AND money. seriously guys). I read some. I let myself watch reruns of HIMYM and drank green tea. I relaxed for the first time in months.
And, most importantly, I made myself a priority again. I stopped hating myself. I was nice to myself.
I remember years ago when I first joined WW and still went to meetings, there was a woman who had been with the program for years and finally made her goal weight. She'd lost over 150 pounds! Our leader asked her what advice she'd give to anyone just starting or to anyone struggling during their weight loss journey.
The woman's advice? Forgive yourself.
She said that each of us is going to fail at something during this journey. None of us are going to be perfect. The difference between lifetime members and people who quit? The lifetime members shook off the failure, forgave themselves for whatever they did wrong, and moved forward. The quitters used the failure or mistake as an excuse to stop.
So, forgive yourselves. I know there are a few readers of mine who have struggled with their weights for years - and this is the best advice I can give them. I had to remember it myself, so I know it's hard. But, you must be nice to yourself, because it's really difficult to take care of a person you hate.
\\
Forgiving myself for the last few months worked this week! Check out my stats - I'm down another 1.4 pounds!

WLJ Weekend Update: 10.27.12: Comparison/Compassion
I'm just going to say it. I forgot to WI this morning. I was work up at exactly 8:00 by the tech who was coming to fix my car's windshield this morning and in my rush to get downstairs to meet him, I completely forgot to get on the scale. So, today's WI weight is from Thursday when I hopped on the scale to check on my progress.
And, my progress was that I'm exactly where I was a week ago.
Not up. Not down. Exactly the same.
I'm okay with that.
Because, while I'm still trying to lose a complete turkey by Thanksgiving, if I come a few pounds short it's not a big deal. As long as I've lost and I'm back in the habit of thinking before I eat and being active, then I'll consider it a success.
\\
Over the week I also realized something. It's something I've learned before, but I'm sort of stubborn and thick-headed sometimes, so I must have needed another exposure to this particular lesson:
Since May, I've been doing a lot of comparing. Why did that girl get this and not me? Why does that person have a house and a car? So and so can run an 8 minute mile (and thinks that's slow), she probably laughs at my pace on dailymile.com. So on and so on...
It hit me fully when I was running earlier this week and was forcing myself to run at a pace that for a lot of people is a comfortable pace...but for me is a sprint. After about 5 minutes of that pace I wanted to throw up so I quit my workout. Which just made me beat myself up. And my inner mean girl came out: "Jaci, ____ can run that pace for an hour without breaking a sweat. What the hell is wrong with you? Why do you suck? Oh, yeah, because you let yourself gain weight again. ____ wouldn't have that issue. And your weight gain is why no one loves you..."
Yeah, I wasn't very nice to myself. Because I was constantly thinking I needed to be someone else.
Then, Thursday came. And on my way to the gym I decided that I'd had a long day and instead of running for the exact purpose of weight loss I was going to run for the purpose of relaxation and stress relief. So, after I warmed up, I put the mill on a comfortable pace (roughly a 11:00 mile) and just ran/jogged for 30 minutes (the longest uninterrupted run I've done in months). I was breathing hard but wasn't in pain, and at the end I had enough in me to sprint the last three minutes. Hard. Then I walked for around 30 minutes, just because it felt good. And, then I did some deeeeeeep stretching.
I felt fantastic afterwords. And proud. In a little over an hour I'd ran and walked 5 miles. I'd set out to finish 3 earlier in the week and quit 1.67 miles into the workout.
That moment I decided something (again). I'm going to stop making myself crazy. I'm going to stop making myself believe that I'm not good enough just because some else is skinnier or faster or has a better job. Instead of practicing comparison, I'm going to practice compassion for everyone - especially myself.

WLJ Weekend Update 9.3.11
First off, it's September. How the heck did that happen?! This officially brings the start of my hard-core job search in NYC. I'm not optimistic. I'm hoping, but not optimistic. I've spent around 20 hours this week resume writing, applying, and doing other job-search activities and the week isn't over yet. I'm trying to remind myself that it won't happen overnight, and there ARE jobs out there, so to be patient, but patience isn't my greatest virtue.
And, from my friends who have found jobs in this recession, I've surmised that the magic number seems to be 100. Each applied to around 100 jobs before getting hired. I've got 20 down, so I'll just keep plugging along. And, I have a job, not a great job, but a job nonetheless, so at least I have that in my favor - apparently some employers won't hire people who are unemployed. How does that even make sense? People keep blaming Obama and the government for the high unemployment, but um, I'm thinking they aren't to blame for that craptastic logic.
Anyways, the point I'm making is that I haven't done much in the way of my weight loss this week. I only tracked on Saturday and I only ran on Monday. So, the fact that when I weighed-in this morning and was only back up to 144, was okay with me.
My goals for this week are to run 3 times, not for weight loss, but for the simple goal that running helps me deal with stress and anxiety. My other goal is to track 4 days. Sometimes, you just have to start small, so that's what I'm doing.
Wish me luck, I have a feeling the next week will be doozy.
P.S. "The Girl With The Fabulous Running Shoes" won in the poll. As soon as I have time to, I'll be updating my header and web address. I'll let you all know the day. Thanks for voting!

WLJ Weekend Update 8.27.11
I won't be weighing in today - due to some things that I won't go into today, my life was a bit out of control this last week. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, however; instead I'm just going to move forward and continue on my weight loss journey.
Here are my goals for the week:
P.S. Remember to vote for my blog's new name if you haven't already! Voting ends on Monday.
Here are my goals for the week:
- Reach 500 miles for the year (watch the ticker above)
- Weights for 60 minutes
- Organize, organize, organize (this moving 1300 miles thing is making me crazy)
- Track (most important)
P.S. Remember to vote for my blog's new name if you haven't already! Voting ends on Monday.

WLJ Weekend Update 8.20.11
Not my best week for sure...not bad though either. I ran just under 20 miles, I did about 60 minutes of weight training, and I hula hooped. The week was the last in a long series of overwhelming work weeks - starting this week my hours go back down, and I'm ecstatic. I don't mind working, but I don't particularly want to kill myself either. Also, when I'm exhausted I'm generally just a little more bitchy. And I don't like being bitchy.
Anyways, New Stats:
I gained .6 pounds this week - eh, whatever. I wasn't super strict in tracking the first half of the week, so I'm not entirely surprised. I'm also PMSing H.A.R.D right now, so that's probably part of it as well.
Goals for the week:

- start really working on my resume
- buy a new belt (I have no idea why I keep putting this off)

- hula-hoop for 20 mins (4x5 mins); nope, but I did complete 60 mins of weights
- track all 7 days; yes
- get all 8HG 6 days; only 5
- breath; successful
- chant my mantra, to keep myself in the present; only thing that got me through a couple days
- order mini sports hoops as a birthday gift for myself; will be doing this today
Best birthday gift I ever gave myself. You all better know that I'm whipping out my skinny jeans to wear today! Did I get to under 140 by my birthday, no, but I'm pretty darn close. And I feel good. That's the most important thing. I'm doing better with making exercise and myself a priority. So...let's look at the difference one month makes:
- Start weight: 149.2; end weight 141.8 = loss of 7.4 pounds or 1.85 pounds per week.
- Only exercise once the week before starting challenge - now exercising 5 times a week
- was slacking on meds - now always takes them
- wasn't tracking at all - now tracks almost every day

- On my very first post of this series, I told y'all how I eat ALL of my weekly points. Well, I try not to eat them on Thursday or Fridays since I officially weigh-in on Saturdays, but I had lots of them left yesterday. Thus, I forced myself to eat the extra 10 points last night. That's right, I forced myself to eat the ice cream and pizza rolls (file this under "First World Problems"). I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, since I eat to live instead of live to eat, I know that I need to eat all those points in order to sustain my exercise habits. On the other hand, I don't necessarily think it's healthy to eat when you're not hungry because it teaches you to ignore your hunger signals. But, I didn't wake up starving this morning or with super low blood sugar (both of which are the norm for me) so maybe eating a late night snack is good for me. I'll continue to play with this.

- I've been spending some time on Pinterest lately (okay, okay, I'm always on the damn thing), looking at inspiration for this last bit of my WLJ. As a general rule, I loath "thinspiration" blogs and pictures, but I do like a good quote about fitness; before and after pics; or pics of athletic and curvy women. Here are two quotes that have been keeping me going to the gym during this crazy exhausting week:
"No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch."and
"I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday."
- Some interesting food for thought. I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day!

- Thanks to my friends for the comments, texts, and emails of support yesterday. Just knowing that my mother and I are in your thoughts and prayers brings me some comfort. I've officially made the decision to table the subject until I know the results of her tests next week. I can't really make a decision until I know all the details, so I'm not going to let myself. I'm just going to work on my resume between then and now and start figuring out what I need to do to find an apartment (I have no idea how to find a place to live when I'm 1300 miles away). The next week is going to be crazy - starting tomorrow I work 7 days straight. 55 hours in 7 days. I'm going to be exhausted, but I know I can do it Then I'm taking 4 days off for my birthday; not sure what I'm doing yet, but I'm sure it will be fab.

- Yesterday was a frustrating day for me. Part of the reason I moved back in with my mom last November was because she was having some health issues - I thought they were mostly resolved. But, at her doctor's appointment yesterday, it became clear they aren't. I promised her I wouldn't leave until she was well, but now I have no idea when that will be. She has an MRI today on her spine to see what they can do there. She doesn't want me to put off moving to NY any longer, but I don't feel like I can just leave (I'm heartbroken - cried most of the afternoon - only ice cream shut me up). I'm her only child and she's the only immediate family I have. What do I do? Anyone else have these problems? Any advice? I really need some guidance.

Something Fun: While it was the busiest day I've ever experienced at work, I decided to not allow the craziness affect my attitude and it paid off! I had a customer make a point of telling my manager (and anyone else he ran into) that he had never had such friendly and helpful service at any ____ (I'm not allowed to say my employer's name, but it is the world's largest retailer, google it). It just feels nice to know that my strong work ethic pays off sometimes.

- I turn 29 two weeks from today. My goal was to be at 139 by then, and it's doable but its going to take a lot of commitment. Two more weeks of writing up everything I eat on here should do it! And maybe some veggies. I told myself I'd start actively looking for jobs in NYC on August 1st - and that's this week. I'll be starting another blog about my move too...stay tuned.
New Stats:
Start Weight: 231.4
Current Weight: 143.2
Weight-loss to date: 88.2
Goal Weight: 139 (new goal)
Pounds to Goal: 4.2
Goals for the week:
Start Weight: 231.4
Current Weight: 143.2
Weight-loss to date: 88.2
Goal Weight: 139 (new goal)
Pounds to Goal: 4.2
Goals for the week:
- Run 18 miles
- hula-hoop for 20 mins (4x5 mins)
- track all 7 days
- get all 8HG 4 days
- spruce up my resume
- Oh, and don't stress eat while looking for jobs in NYC.
