The bad, the good, and maybe an invite?

Some bad stuff happened this week.  I'm not going to mince words about it.  First off, my beloved iPhone, Suzie, died was killed last week because...I accidentally washed her.  Suzie and I had a deep and real love for each other, it's true, and I feel like I lost a friend.  She was kind of my "break-up" gift to myself when The Ex left me two years ago.

And now she's dead.

I was in mourning over it and seriously considered having a candlelight vigil for the lass...until I decided I just needed to get over it and buy a new one.  And, today I upgraded to an iPhone 4 from my lovely, white and aged 3G.

It's black, which seems masculine to me, but I got a pink and purple cover for it, which is decidedly feminine.  So...I think I have a drag queen iPhone an thus must name it accordingly.  I'm in a three-way tie between "The Dame" in honor of Elizabeth Taylor (her and Suzie died the same day), Ru-Paul, and Julie Newmar.  All are gaylishious, fabulous, and fun to say which are really my only requirements.  Thoughts?

On a much more serious note, a friend of mine is suffering a huge loss - someone she loves is dying/dead (I'm not sure which it is now).  In respect of her privacy, I'm not going to say much about it, but her loss reminded me that sometimes...

I'm just a selfish jerk.

Here I was obsessing over my phone when real big important things are happening to people I care about.  I needed to get over myself (thus, why I just ordered the damn phone) and put things back into perspective.

So, I have a brief request: please send thoughts, prayers, pink clouds or whatever you do up to wherever (or nowhere) for all the mothers and children of the world.  And then, because I believe prayers are only answered if action is involved, donate some money to a children's charity.

I'm for real.  Even if it's only $1.00.

Please.

Okay, now, to flip the channel to something lighter and gooder (and I know that's not a word).

The death of my iPhone resulted in me spending a lot of my free time on the interwebs getting all inspired and stuff.  I'm obsessed with Pinterest, an online community for creative types where they share and post what inspires them on virtual "pin boards".

I was pining, pinning, repinning images all week and somehow or other became one of the "most popular" Pinners!   To get this honor you have to "repinned" or "loved" by a lot of your fellow Pinners, and the image that started it all was...

Tin can sculpture/centerpiece. But could also be some storage??
That's exactly what I wrote...and it went viral.  All I was looking for were some creative, up cycled, attractive, storage ideas for what I presume will be a shoebox of an apartment in NYC.  Sometimes, being self-obsessed is a good thing and makes you a trendsetter (or something).

And sometimes...it's good for y'all too!

Pinterest is an invitation only website (kind of how Facebook was before grandparents and preteens joined), so I'm giving away some invites!  I will give up to 5 invitations to the website, all you have to do is leave a comment (with an email so I can send you the invite) and say "PIN ME!" along with whichever name you think would be best for my new iPhone when he/she/it arrives.

Want another chance?  Find me on Twitter (@JaclynneJaciJax) and say "PIN ME!" with your preferred iPhone name on there too!  I'll close the contest on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 8:00 PM (CST).

So, to recap, pray (or whatever you do), donate, comment, and tweet.  Okay, I think that's it...you are all so good to me!

  1. Although I'm already on Pinterest (thanks to you, hon! I'm obsessed too!) I want to vote for "Julie Newmar" as your new phone's name. Because she's so statuesque.
